Pet Peeve. Not a major or overwhelming peeve. I don't lose sleep over this.. but wondering:
Am I just crazy or does it count to ride to a rally anymore? Look, I am not saying I will never trailer... but what I won't do is say I rode to a rally, and didn't. Hence comes my pet peeve.
On my Sturgis, Arizona & Laughlin rides I saw a lot who dropped their bikes and rode in for the last 100 miles or so.. that's okay. I have no problem with that. I don't have a problem with trailering. I know a few that do and they prefer to relax and ride there, set up camp and enjoy the RV part of the rally too... great! Love that...use the rally and all it's offerings.
But, I just don't understand why people are embarrassed to leave that out of a conversation and lead others to think that they rode.
I'll take this one step further: Is this a gender thing? I know men who trailer too... they have no problem telling the tale, as I see it. Is it just women? What do you think?

welllllllll i trailer and sometimes i just pull the empty trailer around lol :) xoxo
K: You crack me up!
I am new to riding and have never been to a rally, so take my comments for what they're worth. Having said that, it seems to me that trailering your bike to the rally defeats the whole purpose.
Spot on! The whole thing about riding to a rally is the whole adventure of getting there. All the pain, and thrill, and bad-ass road trippin', the cold, the heat, the laughs, the tears, the rain, the sights, the bugs, the hanging out with your best friends after a hard day of chasing down your shadow....that is what it's about for me. The rally?...just an excuse to do all the previous above.
First of all, I've never trailed to a rally, even if I had to ride 3,000 miles. That being said, I don't care if people do or if they don't. Everyone has their reasons for doing what they do. If you trailer fine, but don't try to be a "poser" and ride in for the last 100. BTW, my personal observations have been of mostly men doing it, just sayin...
No Name: To each his own, but I prefer to ride to the ones I choose to go too. Its a rush.
Dave: You put the feelings into words perfectly. I may not be a rally junkie, but I do like the ride there the best. Everything else is a t-shirt. :)
Rhonda: I really don't care either, I just wonder why peeps leave that part out in conversation. Silly to me. Funny, you mention men... one of the reasons I wrote this was because a one of my riding friends were sitting in Ludlow on our way back from Laughlin and watched about 5 men load their bikes into trailers waiting for them. They hopped into the trailers and left. On our next leg of the ride we passed 4 ladies on new Harleys riding. They looked awesome cutting through the wind. Couldn't help but smile.
I'm with you. If you're going to trailer it and then ride it the last 100 miles or so...just say that's what you did. It would make me question everything that comes out of their mouth wondering if they left out something that they knew would change the way their story is perceived so it would appear more interesting.
