What Makes You Smile When You Ride?

I always wonder what other riders are thinking when I see the smiles on their faces as I ride by, or even while I am driving, which makes me want to get out of my car and into the saddle. For me its a "feeling" or the "music" of it all that keeps me going amidst all the news of riders going down these days. My perseverance in going forward with my life the way I choose amongst the naysayers.   The plain beauty of accomplishing a skill that I truly enjoy.  The people.  Traveling in a different perspective during this time of life.  I could go on and on, but plain and simple... it makes me happy. Just happy.

So a question to you: What makes you smile while riding? What are you thinking of when that smile comes across your face? We know what pisses us off already, but where does your brain-time take you while riding?

I know the moment you are speaking of and experience it often when I'm riding. It usually comes on a nice day, blue skies, puffy white clouds, cruising a stretch of road with no stoplights. The exhaust note sounds like a long drum roll- think of the theme music from "Hawaii 5-0" - and the wind rushing by my ears adds to the sensation of speed. I am not thinking about work or bills or computers or personal problems. In that moment, I am the best version of myself.

I am flying.

I'm free, can't hear no bitching, the smell, the sound of the bike, thinking goes to clear thinking. How good I feel for me and bad for that person that gives me that look of wishing they were on a bike. And those moments of "peace".

Good question. What am I thinking when I smile, and get flies in my teeth?  Nothing.  Except enjoying riding my motorcycle.  That's the beauty of it.  Nothing important stirs in my mind.  Maybe where to turn, what to eat or to drink, or a thought to look out for the rogue drivers.  But nothing too challenging.  When the ignition gets turned on, there is a signal sent directly to the brain to stop everything.

there are many variables to what makes me smile when I ride somtimes it is my brother's and sister's who are riding along with me to some destination...other times being with one with all that is in the moment ...if I have to explain that.....Also many times I ride old roads passed by the freeways that have been built in my lifetime ,I ride plaes that were part of my childhood. I like to go places that are filled with the sprit's of past and I don't mean hangover city either! If you have lived any life at all you know what I mean some places you ride thru have an almost cemetary feel to it a feeling of just being watched with a smile as you pass by while other places have menacing feel to it as you go on thru ......then there are thoughts of friends here and gone past conversations ,future meet ups and conversations you want to have and lastly as I ride along some old road at about 30 mph I think of all that have come and gone and realize that you my friend , we still have smiles and miles to Share between us ..That reslly makes me smile when I RIDE.

Wow... that's a loaded question... and I have too many answers!

The sun setting on the horizon... and you realize at that moment, your seeing a gift from God.

The John Deere mailbox... the green and gold of JD always reminds me of my daddy.

The crazy yard dog that plays chase with you as you ride past his kingdom.

Feeling the vibration of my machine and knowing that I control my destiny... while it fuels my spirit.

Other riders... waving and smiling.

My list could go on... and on.

But you get the picture!

No Name, Webster, Gary, Paul6toes, Lady R,
Its like a dream reading all your responses. Something that is felt in the heart of the soul. People say I just love to ride, but there is a reason, a feeling, and you all captured that one in words. Yet, we still feel more. Luv'n the responses! *big smile*

At the risk of stealing someone else's thunder, I think noname nailed it. It's that combination of great riding conditions and a pure mental state that will always have me grinning from ear to ear. And if I see something particular quirky on the side of the road, so much the better.

I knew it... everyone has this "song" in their head while riding. I love all the answers here and bet all can relate to everyone of them in some way or another ♥
